On the off chance that I have any friends here who don't read my blog or Will's and are not my friends on Twitter or Facebook, just thought I'd pop in and say hi!

We're having another baby. And that's really all I have to report.

So, um. Bye!

11:14am: My first D&D campaign (I died)

I died in the Dungeon of Noirbettie

I was killed in a grimy catacomb by Strph the gelatinous cube, whilst carrying...

the Sword of Scattergold, the Wand of Supervillains and 47 gold pieces.

Score: 23

On the twelfth day of Christmas, noirbettie sent to me...
Twelve Bruce Campbells drumming
Eleven coffees piping
Ten pioneers a-leaping
Nine antiquities dancing
Eight orchids a-milking
Seven potatoes a-knitting
Six deadlands a-crocheting
Five pa-a-a-astries
Four supervillains
Three fonts
Two royal tenenbaums
...and an oslowe in a rockabilly.

A couple weeks ago I took a quiz that [info]aaronace linked to that determined what type of RPG player you are. The link to the quiz no longer works, unfortunately, but I was able to grab my results from his journal.

I mention this because I've gone all Weird West Geek on my blog.

You scored as Storyteller. The Storyteller is in it for the plot: the sense of mystery and the fun of participating in a narrative that has the satisfying arc of a good book or movie. He enjoys interacting with well-defined NPCs, even preferring antagonists who have genuine motivations and personality to mere monsters. To the Storyteller, the greatest reward of the game is participating in a compelling story with interesting and unpredictable plot threads, in which his actions and those of his fellow characters determine the resolution.

8:38pm: insane troll logic
Today on my blog I asked people to delurk.

Almost immediately I got a comment calling me "sad" for having to solicit comments. I got so excited! I immediately approved the comment. (All first-time comments are held for approval.)

I think I might be retarded or something.

But seriously - a troll just for little old me! I haven't had one in ever so long, and that most disappointingly turned out to be someone I sort of knew, so it didn't count.

Retarded...but famous!

8:56pm: Attention loyal fans:
It occurs to me that my livejournal buddies might like to be able to read my journal updates. Since I blog elsewhere, I think some folks don't keep up-to-the-minute on my life. Isn't that so crazy?

Anyway, I just wanted to point out that there is a feed of my blog posts at http://syndicated.livejournal.com/annikablog/ thanks to dee. I think it only shows partial posts, but that's fine because you have to go to my actual blog anyway if you want to leave comments. If you don't, then I apologize for the inconvenience. Also, you should keep this account on your friends list because where else will I make locked posts complaining about people who read my regular blog?

Thus concludes the most self-centered and egotistic update ever.

12:56pm: This is a meme.
1. My username is noirbettie because it is a nickname Will gave me many years ago that I feel is most appropriate..
2. My journal is titled Bad Mojo because it is what came to mind when I had to fill it in.
3. My subtitle is This is not a journal because it isn't.
4. My friends page is called These are not the friends you're looking for because ...if you have to ask, you're off my friends list.
5. My default userpic is me because I am me.

Will and I would like to apologize if we have said to you, in the last eight weeks or so, that we are "in negotiations" to expand our family. This was said in error, as we really meant we were (chronologically):
  • fucking like bunnies
  • waiting two weeks
  • peeing on a stick
  • waiting two minutes
  • staring at the stick, saying, "do you think..." "I'm pretty sure..." "er..." "um..."
  • peeing on more sticks
  • which were defective
  • finally, on the third day of peeing, getting a +
  • keeping it a secret
Baby is due May 25th.

While I drink my coffee before getting back to the 500 page book I have to read by this afternoon.

From...assorted people, the first of whom was probably Ryan...

Look at your LJ "interests" list. If you have fewer than 50 interests, pick every fifth one. If you have between fifty and seventy-five interests, pick every seventh one. If you have over seventy-five interests, pick every tenth one. If you have fewer than ten, pick all of 'em. List them on your LJ, and tell everyone exactly what it is about these things that interests you so much.

4:41pm: fairy tales for grown-ups
This is cross-posted from my blog because I want a good long list.

Care to help me compile a list? Leave your choices in the comments. I will add the ones I agree with (which is probably any I have read) to my master list.
  • Clive Barker's The Thief Of Always
  • Roger Zelazny's A Night In The Lonesome October
  • Neil Gaiman's entire catalog
  • V.S. Naipaul's "The Thing Without A Name" from Miguel Street
That's a very abbreviated list, but it's just the ones that popped into my head before I ever intended to make a list. I'm sure it will fill out in no time.

10:07am: You're a cheater and you'll never be any good.
On Wednesday night I had a drag of a cigarette (which was so strong it almost knocked me off my feet) as I toasted my departed friend Karma. Then I took a sip of my margarita, which tasted only slightly better than putting a straw directly into a septic tank. Gee, I wonder what made it taste like that?

In conclusion, cigarettes = gross.

9:36am: ARGH!
(By the way, all of my quitting smoking posts are going here because my parents read my other blog. So, um, lucky you.)

Dear Whole Foods,

Please employ some people who know what they are talking about in your vitamin (etc.) section. I had a perfectly simple question (Will this product help me quit smoking and if not what will?) and received blank stares in return. I mean, the girls giving the stares were real purty, but I did not go to your store to be my own medical counsel.

The Rescue Remedy that I recommended to myself is working just fine, thank you for asking, JACKASS.

love,
Annika

8:14pm: In which I threatened to break someone's nose.
I offer the following as objective advice on how not to behave when someone of your acquaintance is trying to quit smoking, particularly if you have never been a smoker and are an annoying know-it-all.

Do not ask how the person is doing unless you are going to accept "tense" as the answer.

When told "tense," do not say, "It's better than dying of lung cancer."

When politely asked not to take that tact, do not continue lecturing about lung cancer. Smoking does not make people stupid. In fact, I would venture a guess that there are no smokers who are unaware that it is unhealthy.

When the very recent ex-smoker explains why they would prefer to not be lectured about medical reasons to quit smoking, especially seeing as how they have already done the quitting and are now very tense, it is really inadvisable to KEEP HOUNDING THEM YOU FUCKING CUNT.
